The prefecture-level city of Zibo – located in East China's Shandong province – has inaugurated a mediation body to process commercial disputes between enterprises operating in the region.

On July 3 the people's mediation committee of enterprise economic disputes was established – to explore a range of solutions to disagreements between businesses, at a lower cost.

Song Zhenbo, Zibo deputy mayor, told the inaugural meeting of the mediation committee that the new body was an innovative exploration that applied the existing social dispute-resolving process to the business world.

"The establishment of the mediation committee was led by the Zibo enterprises confederation and entrepreneurs association," Song added..

"By combining the professional knowledge of two organizations with the flexibility of mediation, the committee will help enterprises concentrate on business, by preventing and resolving corporate economic disputes," Song said.

Liang Jiujun, president of the municipal intermediate people's court, said that as long as Zibo developed, the city's court was willing to provide services even though these might involve some risks.

Liang said the court would strengthen exchanges in mechanisms, personnel, services and guaranteed work with the relevant departments of the city and entrepreneurs, making good use of the mediation committee.

The new body is expected to be an influential initiative, with Zibo characteristics, for dealing with enterprise-related disputes by providing efficient and innovative solutions.
