Construction of the planned Tsingtao Beer Town in the sub-district of Nanma – located in Yiyuan county, administered by Zibo city in East China's Shandong province – kicked off on Feb 16.

To cost 3 billion yuan ($475.2 million) when completed, the site covers an area of 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares). This will be deployed mainly for a beer production line, a mineral water production line and a beer outlet and retail street covering 20 ha, 23.3 ha, 23.3 ha respectively – as well as upstream and downstream support operations.

Showcasing the local characteristics of Yiyuan, the project is expected to create a demonstration base that integrates industrial tourism, product manufacturing, consumer experiences and cultural influences – in a grand complex that is seen as being of significance to the further development of the county.

At present, the design of the first phase has been completed and the mineral water project, which is in phase two, has received its construction certificate. Annual production of beer and mineral water is projected at capacity to hit 600,000 tons and 1 million tons, respectively – generating total output value of 7 billion yuan and the profit and tax of 1 billion yuan, employing some 1,000 people.

The construction of the project is also expected to take the industrial development of Yiyuan to a new level. Located in the central Shandong province, Yiyuan is understood to have seized on various policy opportunities that have emerged in recent years and has actively worked on improving its investment mechanisms, upgrading its traditional industries and developing new industries.

Last year, 79 projects with a total investment of 5 billion yuan from regions outside Shandong was introduced to Yiyuan county.
