The Boshan district of Zibo city – located in East China's Shandong province – was the homeland of Jiao Yulu, a civil servant who sacrificed his life in 1964 while trying to alleviate poverty, becoming a role model for other Party members.
In October 1966, the exhibition hall of Jiao Yulu's deeds was built and it opened in Beigushan village in Boshan, the earliest memorial hall commemorating Jiao Yulu in China. In May 1989, its name was changed to the present one.
The memorial hall is a patriotism education base and it has been awarded multiple honors, such as the appellation of "Youth Civilization of Shandong Province." It is said to play an irreplaceable role depicting the different historical stages of the Party's revolutionary education.
