China's first expressway tourism camping ground, a project guided by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong province, kicked off on April 29.
The new facility is located in the Hongye Shiyan scenic spot in the Boshan district of Zibo city, in East China's Shandong province.
The scenic spot is near the Boshan exit of the Binzhou-Laiwu Expressway. The expressway tourism camping ground is said to be an innovative response to the latest in market demands.
Many people are choosing to embark on short-distance tours in or near their homes due to the COVID-19 epidemic, with camping trips and homestays as a result reporting a boom this year.
The camping ground boasts bespoke camping as its core offering – and includes eco-tourism, visits to sites and special recreational activities. Visitors can choose activities such as afternoon tea, barbeques and hire part-time tents according to their needs.

In order to promote the tourism market's recovery, the Hongye Shiyan scenic spot has also put on special attractions such as lawn concerts and nostalgic shops.
