The halcyon pileata – or black-capped kingfisher – made an appearance for the first time in Zibo city, in East China's Shandong province on July 3, providing even more evidence of the improved water quality in the city.
The black-capped kingfisher is a national second-class protected animal, mainly inhabiting streams, rivers, ponds and marshes and resting on branches or rocks along the waterways.
