Yuhuangtang paper cutting, or Gaoqing paper cutting, originates from Gaoqing county – administered by Zibo city in East China's Shandong province.
The county has struggled to pass on its folk craft to future generations in recent years. However, in a stroke of fortune, the art form made the list of Zibo intangible cultural heritage in 2014, strengthening its preservation.
Wang Gong, an official inheritor of the skill, has been dedicated to the study of paper cutting for 50 years. In recent year, Wang has created a series of works combining traditional or local culture.
This group of paper cuttings depicts a traditional fairy tale – Taishan Laogu – which tells the love story between Tai'anjun, an immortal and a human girl from ancient Qingcheng city. [Photos/zbnews.net]
