It's often said that immersing yourself in a sea of flowers is the best way to feel spring and located in the south of Huantai county – administered by Zibo city in East China's Shandong province – is a place to really savor them: the Honglian Lake Scenic Area.
Glorious flowers there include Chinese flowering crabapples, fructus forsythias, flowering plums, roses, sakuras and flowering peaches, as well as other ones that bloom in the summer. They can all be found in the east and west areas of the lake.

In the scenic area's name, "honglian" means red lotus. It was named after one of the eight ancient sights to be found in Huantai county – the Huipo Honglian, or red lotus in Huicheng Lake, now known as Honglian Lake.
The main scenic spots around Honglian Lake include the ecological wetland, children's garden, lawns, pavilions, landscape tower, suspension bridge and water wheels.
The best time to see the water lilies on Honglian Lake is from June to August. [Photo/WeChat account: zibowenhualvyou]
