Zibo city is located in the middle of East China's Shandong province, with Mount Tai to its south. It backs onto the Yellow River to the north, neighbors the spring city of Jinan to the west, and is adjacent to Weifang and Qingdao to the east.

It has long acted as a regional transportation hub as well as the passage between Central China and the Shandong Peninsula, being 200 kilometers west of the leading port of Qingdao, 100 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Jinan, 900 kilometers north of Shanghai city and 500 kilometers south of the capital Beijing.

It has convenient and fast transportation, with railways and expressways crossing it. The railway lines for the Jiaoji (Qingdao-Jinan), Zhangbo (Zhangdian-Boshan), Zidong (Zibo-Dongying) and Xintai (Xindian-Tai'an) routes all converge in Zibo.

The newly built Jjinan-Qingdao High-speed Railway has traffic hinges like the Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan and Qingdao interconnected. It takes two hours and a half to go to Beijing and five hours to go to Shanghai. In addition, the National Highways 205 and 309, along with the Expressways Jinan-Qingdao G20 and Binzhou-Laiwu G18, all run through Zibo.
