An event to promote Zibo's specialty handicrafts and intangible cultural heritage was held on Feb 18 at Wuyue Plaza in Zibo city, in East China's Shandong province.

Organized by the city's publicity department and cultural industry center, as well as a local cultural enterprise, the event aims to raise the public profile of Zibo's exquisite traditional handmade specialties – such as bowls, iron kettles and glazed ornaments.

A visitor named Ma Lina said she bought some things and planned to take them home as gifts for her out-of-town relatives.

"All these hand-made products are specialties of Zibo. The delicate and exquisite workmanship make them practical and upscale gifts," Ma added.

A young girl called Wang Chenxi asked her mom to buy two glazed porcelain rabbits because she wanted to give one to her classmate at school.

According to a member of staff, the exhibition in the shopping mall gave visitors a broad idea of what Zibo has to offer in folk handicrafts and intangible cultural heritage – and to explore the charms of its traditional culture.

Some 20 companies brought their first products – such as silk, ceramics, glazed products and household items to the event – which combined displays of novelties, popular toys, art and interactive facilities.

Moving forwards, it's expected that more enterprises will be invited to stage these kinds of exhibitions and fairs at tourist destinations and parks in the city.
