The Zichuan economic development zone – administered by Zibo city, in East China's Shandong province – on May 6 held a signing ceremony for 20 new projects, as well as a groundbreaking ceremony for projects costing nearly 7.31 billion yuan ($1.08 billion), local media reported.

The projects cover such key fields as intelligent manufacturing, new energy, new materials, new medicines and modern logistics.

One of the main projects – the planned Zibo factory for auto manufacturer Geely's new energy commercial vehicles – is stepping up its construction.

"The infrastructure has basically been finished, with the equipment entering the final debugging stage," said Shandong Geely New Energy Auto Co Ltd general manager Chen Aiguo, who gave details on the latest progress in its construction.

"Plans are to produce and sell strategic products in the second half of 2022 and in 2023," Chen said.

Elsewhere, the project to develop the planned Haier-Xinxing Logistics Highway Harbor in the Zibo development zone is also proceeding smoothly. Its first phase has started operating and the second phase is now under construction.

Shandong Xinxing Group Co Ltd general manager Ye Yanli said it will be a national intelligent industrial park and become a demonstration area for the intelligent industry in Zibo, as well as for the province and country.

The Zichuan economic development zone is understood to be well on the way to developing an automobile and auto parts industrial cluster and a modern logistics base – both valued at over 100 billion yuan – as well as three 10 billion-yuan industry clusters for biomedicines, new energy and new materials.
