A lotus festival kicked off on July 30 at Mata Lake – located in Zibo city in East China's Shandong province – attracting hordes of visitors who just loved these wonderful flowers now coming into their own there.
The festival includes a wide variety of activities, such lotus-themed photography competitions, science classes to popularize lotus-related knowledge and lectures on the lotus spirit in the local Qi culture.

Mata Lake boasts rich animal and plant resources and over 90 percent of the land is covered with vegetation. It was listed as one of the provincial ecological tourism demonstration units – by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Shandong Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment – on July 31.
