There were cheers all round when three villages in the Boshan district of Zibo city – located in East China's Shandong province – were listed as scenic villages, in an announcement released by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism on Dec 22
As a result, the villages in question are expected to get more local government support for the development of scenic spots, as well as a big boost in rural tourism and the incomes of locals.
South Zhujiazhuang village – or Zhujiazhuangnan village – is located in the northernmost part of Boshan town in Boshan district, with a forest coverage rate of 85.45 percent. The village has developed a tour route for apricot blossom viewing, which offers visitors flower picking, climbing and accommodation.
Shangxiaofeng village in Chishang town is the highest village, located on the north side of the main peak of Lushan Mountain. Shangxiaofeng grows green and safe agricultural products such as tea, kiwis and chestnuts. It is also building eco-agriculture parks for tourists to get invigorating rural experiences.

Niejiayu village is located in the geographic center of Shandong province, at the foot of Lushan Mountain. It boasts rich natural resources and a rich cultural and historical ambience.
The village has constructed a 5-kilometer-long cherry blossom road, established a 67 hectares of maple forest and other forests. With its various homestays, hotels and taverns, the village has become a popular rural leisure and life complex – offering dining, accommodation, fishing, conferences and training, small concerts, country bars and other activities.
