Zhoucun district acts to upgrade traditional industries

The government of Zhoucun district – in Zibo city, located in East China's Shandong province – is pushing ahead with plans for industrial transformation and its high-quality development.

According to officials at the recently concluded 13th Communist Party of China Congress of Zhoucun District, it will steer growth into six specific fields, including building industrial clusters and developing itself as a park city.

In addition, the district also unveiled the government's performance in 2021. Last year Zhoucun district's economy recorded estimated GDP of 24.5 billion yuan ($3.85 billion), up 34.2 percent on 2016. Local fiscal revenue is estimated to hit 2.02 billion yuan, an increase of 14.4 percent on 2016.

The district has been optimizing its business environment and developing the old industrial zone. The ratio of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors has been adjusted to 3.9:45.6:50.5.

It is understood that Zhoucun has undertaken a total of 598 key reform projects over the past five years, including 93 pilot projects at or above the provincial level. 

What's more, the district has been listed as a pilot area for service industry reforms and health service industry innovation in Shandong province.

In addition, over 70 percent of the district's fiscal expenditures were used annually in recent years to improve public welfare. Last year, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents hit 45,863 yuan and 22,815 yuan, respectively, increasing 40.8 percent and 49.2 percent than the end of 2016.

Plans are that over the next five years, Zhoucun district will continue to gain momentum to restructure its industry and apply intelligent and digital technology in daily management and production.
